Nominate Your Favourite Writing Blogs!

Maria Schneider has asked people to nominate their favourite writing blogs over at Editor Unleashed. Nominations are welcome until 18 August which gives you just a few more days to participate. Fame and fortune await the lucky winners: no doubt there'll be a few soggy sandwiches left over for the also-rans.

I know a few brilliant writers' blogs I'm going to nominate: Writer Beware, all those blogging agents like Janet Reid, Colleen Lindsay, Nathan Brandsford; Emma Darwin's This Itch Of Writing has to go on the list, of course; the Pitch Parlour, the Behler Blog, Nicola Morgan's fabulous blog and Sally Zigmond's excellent The Elephant in the Writing Room; but I'm sure I've missed one off that list.

(Does everybody agree that it's naff for people to nominate their own blogs? I think it probably is so I'm not going to nominate this one. It's up to you, boys and girls. Please remember to leave a link and don't mention my nastier habits. Thank you.)

I'd like to nominate Dan Powell Fiction for running 'the first blog based literary reality show'.

The second nomination is Tania Hershman's blog. It’s full of news from the world of short and flash fiction. I appreciate this form of fiction mainly because I am unable to write short stories myself, yet enjoy them tremendously.

I hope the hyperlinks work, first time I've used them...

I'm American and I thought it naff to self-nominate, but everyone is doing it so I'm glad you nominated yourself as well. I was thinking we were supposed to nominate just one (of the zillion great blogs out there) so I only picked one to mention.

There are a lot of blogs listed that I hadn't heard of before so now I'm reading them, too!

Jaaaaaaane - hellllllllp! I want to do it, I really really do, and of course I'd be nominating you, but I am trying to rush it and I can't work out how to do the links in comments. And I'm so tired and my head is buzzing with all the things I have to do before tomorrow, and the next day and even more the next and I am b-o-g-g-l-e-d. What do i do??

I wasn't going to self-nominate either, but when I re-read the post at EU it was clear that they were not only allowed but encouraged. And as I messed up my first attempt, I tried again and included a link here as well.

Don’t worry about how you get the links up, Nicola, just stick them in any old how. I don’t think you have to make them clickable links like I did: just write them out in full. For example, if you were going to nominate my blog (as if you would…) you could copy and paste this alongside your comment:

http://howpublishingreallyworks.blogspot.com

If you want me to tell you how to make them clickable I can’t really help, because I cheated! I wrote my reply on Blogger, as if I was going to post it as a blog post here, clicked on the “edit HTML” tab then copied and pasted it over as it was, and that seemed to work.

Oh, I thought I had to make them clickable. I think I might try your blogger solution though. But at the moment I am dizzy with too much computer time. Do you think you can get RSI of the eyes and brain? I think that's what I've got.

Will try later. Thank you, lovely Jane

There are so many blogs I like. Nicola's is fun and informative, Nathan’s is certainly popular, and the writer beware blog is very important for new writers especially. The P&E site is a godsend and should get its own award for furthering the integrity of the publishing business. Thank you ladies. Then you have my blog to consider, but it’s written by an idiot so…

I’d like to nominate The Literary Lab. http://literarylab.blogspot.com/

Please check it out if you haven’t already. Every post is a must read for writers with a desire to improve. It’s written by three very different writers that are all talented and helpful.

I'd like to thank you, Jane, for nominating This Itch of Writing. I'm honoured!

Nicola, I think you need more chocolate. That's bound to sort you out.

Emma, of course I nominated your blog: you write the most wonderful things over there, and I am in awe of you. More people should read your brilliant blog.

As for the rest of you: thank you so much for the nominations, and for those of you who have left details of other sites here, don't forget to visit Editor Unleashed at the link above to make your nominations where it counts. Thank you!

What - you can self nominate?

Of course mine is absolutely the best blog on this earth, though I write about other things than writing too...does that still count? Here's the link anyway. Helena Halme

Where, apart from here? I nominate here then.

I enjoy lots, so here are a few more. Nominations, shominations. Just enjoy em, I say.

I love Tania's blog too, because she is very generous with her links to comps, and always so passionate about the short story, alerting everyone to what's going on in the world of shorts, and it is also seriously lovely to see her very hard work at her own writing being rewarded.

I giggle and empathise in equal measure with Sara Crowley's blog, writer and bookseller insights alike- very funny, very interesting. www.asalted.blogspot.com

I appreciate Kay Sexton's wisdom at www.writing neuroses.blogspot.com

Did I break the rules? Oh goodie. It's been a hard day.

Miaou! Nicola might need chocolate (and you probably need more chocolate too) but I need time. My whiskers are all twitchy with lack of sleep. It is all Nicola's fault and now you are offering diversions Jane! When I have had a big enough cat-nap to work out what to do I will prowl on over and give you both a paws up.

Oh, Jane, what a lovely surprise after a rather crappy day. Thank you!

Isn't there a law that Fridays aren't allowed to be crap?
