How Books Are Built

Editorial Anonymous is a children's book editor of some repute, with a wonderful blog which I look at often. It's well worth reading even if you don't write children's books.

A couple of weeks ago she wrote a fabulous blog post about how illustrated books are constructed, which you can read here. Don't assume that it's only going to be interesting to those of you who write illustrated books for children; it's going to be useful no matter what kind of books you write. Really. Go and read it now. But don't forget to come back here when you're done!

It is great, isn't it? I'm glad I'm not the only person who likes it so much, for a while I thought I was just showing another of my sad obsessions off again.

You are certainly not the only one! I read her every post (and read that one when it was new), just like I read all your posts.
Apologies for not commenting at the time, but I really enjoyed my cyber visit to the printers (your post of the 30th October).

Pierre! Thank you for commenting. And I'm glad you enjoyed the visit to the printers: I was beginning to think that I was the only one. I just love stuff like that, but my children look at me like I'm missing a vital part when I try to explain my enthusiasms.

Thanks for that, Jane. Very interesting indeed. I'll add her blog to my list.

Jan, nice to see you here again. It seems that there are a few of us strange obsessives who enjoy reading about endpapers and facing matter... I should start a help-group.

I love Editorial Anonymous even though I don't write children's books; a lot of her advice is general writing advice/publishing info that I've found very helpful and encouraging. (Although, to be honest, I skimmed over the "how illustrated books are made" post - I think I read it too late at night and my brain had shut down).
