I Think I'm Back

Many apologies for the long break in transmission.

Thanks to odd things happening with my blogger account, my ISP deciding I didn't really know who I was, and a particularly nasty troll, I've been unable to do anything with my blogs for a couple of weeks now.

I think I've got everything nearly back to normal: forgive me if you've commented over the last few weeks but your comment hasn't yet appeared, I'll be trawling through all comments and slowly approving them as I get time. I've lost a couple of weeks' worth of planned blog posts, so have some work ahead of me to get back on track: meanwhile, I appreciate your patience. I've been venting a little on Twitter if anyone's interested.

Now, where were we?

I'm happy you are back up and running. I was started to wonder about you.

How frustrating to have your saved posts disappear. *she says, quickly transporting a wip to another location...*

Glad to see you back - I was surprised when the posts began to stop as you're usually so prolific.

I don't believe a word of it. You've been lying on a sun-lounger somewhere tropical being served iced gin cocktails by four very fit young men with rippling thighs and tanned six-packs.

Word ver. 'unchagg'. I say no more.

Damn you, Zigmond. I can't get away with anything when you're around.

One of the benefits of my enforced absence was that I wrote an extraordinary amount of the novel I've got going: I have a lot of jiggling to do with it (I don't write sequentially, which leads to a lot of jigsaw-piecing) but it seems as though I have only one more scene left to write before it's done (in first draft, at least). I'm rather pleased about that (I think that the beginning of it is on my quietest blog, Opinion and Invention, if anyone would like to go typo-hunting for me--I'd welcome comments).

If I'd tried harder I could probably have fitted a few more sets of brackets in that last comment of mine. Or even tried nesting them. That might have been interesting. As it is, I hope you can understand roughly what I meant: I'm out of practise, I'm afraid.

I would be humble if you would read my Blog. Its a story its need to be told But I don't know how to get it out.
Thank you For your time

Great to have you back, Jane. How Publishing Really Works has been looking a little forlorn on my blogroll.

(Although I do like Sally's suggestion!)

Hooooooray! That and I was sent chocolate today! How much better can life get? Now, please tell us something important and pointful because we are all bereft.

So sorry about your problems in computer-land.

I guess a side effect of their power to make our lives easier is that when they're going awry, that power plays merry hobb with our lives instead.

Some price to pay, no?

I've missed you too and am glad to see you posting again. Idiot that I am I thought you might have been working hard and too busy to post :)

I sympathise with you losing work. I had the similar woes with two different versions of Word that decided to see who could corrupt a file the most (Word 2002 won).

Computers...
Can't live with them, can't live without 'em. Mine crashed twice and luckily I was able to back up my files before we put old faithful out of its misery.

Congrats on the progress of your novel!

Thank you all for your kind words: and especially, thank you to Janice for being brave enough to comment here.

Janice, I've had a look at your blog and your story is so terribly sad that I'm afraid I couldn't bring myself to say anything useful at all. I do hope that things are improving for you now.

If you want to improve your writing, a good place to start is www.absolutewrite.com/forums where you'll find lots of experienced, able writers who are happy to help, and a lot of information about writing and publishing. You've got a long way to go before your writing is publishable, but if you join AW you'll have taken the first step on that road. Good luck.
