I Wish I Lived In Edinbugh!

Yes, I know it would mean that I would run the risk of bumping into that Morgan woman every now and then, but it would also mean that I could apply for the job of managing the Edinburgh Bookshop, the latest creation of Fidra Books' growing business empire.

I could be entirely wrong here, but I bet that the good people at Fidra are not necessarily looking for someone with years of retail experience. I'm guessing that enthusiasm, positivity, computer savvy, marketing brilliance and a familiarity with Facebook and blogging and books and bookish people would be of more interest. And I know that lots the people who read my blog fit that description well.

If you're wondering what good a job in a bookshop would do you just take a look at Fidra's reputation, and consider what their past employees have gone on to do (the Orange Prize website might be a good place to start).

Let me know if you apply, and good luck to you all.

You would indeed run the risk of bumping into me every now and then but this would be a small price to pay for working within spitting distance of Edinburgh's organic chocolate shop, Coco's of Bruntsfield. And Jane, some of their produce is on its way to you. Well, it will be once I get off my backside and stop commenting on your blog.

Man, I'd love to go back to Edinburgh. That's where I started dating my wife. We had a Very Important relationship-defining talk at the top of Arthur's Seat.

Hmm, Coco. I heart their hot white chocolate and lemongrass combo!

Dark chocolate and chilli is mine. All mine.

I have some of that, Nicola, made in NZ and sat on the kitchen table mouldering as we speak because no-one will eat it! I would post it to you but even by 600mph aeroplane it will take nearly a week. Might not be at its best.
PS Is that man above you wearing your shoes?

Sleepyjohn - I was a bit worried that they were indeed my shoes. It sounds as though he may live in Edinburgh so i'm going to keep my eyes open for a man with pointy shoes and an unusual taste in chocolate. do you think he's trying to impersonate me?

Meanwhile, i think we should get off Jane's perfectly serious post about a bookshop job to die for and stop clogging it up with chocolate and shoes.

Hmmm...should I contemplate a move across the pond? Beautiful beaches and perfect weather are way overrated.

Oo, a mention *blush* ;)

This job is such an amazing opportunity. I worked at The Children's Bookshop for a year and miss it terribly. Trust me, if I was still in Edinburgh, I'd give my right arm for this job. Take heed: APPLY.

That job is MINE, Ms Smith. Apart from the fact that I live way down in Yorkshire and am far too old, I am the perfect candidate. AND I have book-selling experience. So there.

Jen! Thank you for popping in. How's London going? (For those of you who don't know, the lovely Jen used to work at Fidra Books' Children's Bookshop and won a prize from those nice people at Orange for her reading group (I think--I'm sure she'll correct me if I'm wrong). So she knows what it's like to work for Fidra, and can be relied upon to give us all the gossip about Vanessa's various and extraordinary methods for motivating her staff. I've been promised that the electric shock collars have now all been decommissioned, and there's been no need for them to bring out the meat-slicer for some time).

By the way, Morgan, talk about chocolate all you like but be aware: it might well encourage me to visit you. So watch it.

I live in the wrong hemisphere and on the wrong side of the world - and Vanessa does not want cat hair in her computer.
Purrhaps it is just as well. Chocolate is not good for cats.
